Education

Building opportunities to learn

Education remains SHINE's central area of work. Its Education Hut initiatives provide structured learning, educational materials and activities for children in village communities.

Education Hut School

Education Hut School works with children in village communities, providing books, bags, sweaters and other basic educational support. The school combines classroom learning with activities, play and homework.

The programme also includes martial arts, social skills, cultural activities, competitions and recognition for students through certificates, trophies and medals.

Education Hut — Shankarpur

The Shankarpur Education Hut provides children with additional learning support after government school, helping them strengthen their understanding through structured classes and small-group learning.

The initiative focuses on strengthening curriculum knowledge while introducing learning patterns supported by technology and online resources.

Education Hut — Rajahi

The Rajahi Education Hut provides free tuition to children from Rajahein and adjoining villages. Students receive educational supplies, uniforms, bags, sweaters and stationery through different activities.

The centre also organises cultural functions, games and an evening learning routine around the children's availability after primary school.

Education Hut — Kanpur

The Kanpur Education Hut extends SHINE's education-focused work, supporting children with learning opportunities and educational resources.

The wider objective is to improve access to education and support children who may otherwise have limited educational resources.

Community welfare

Responding to everyday needs

SHINE's community initiatives extend beyond classrooms, bringing people together around awareness, books, health, winter support, essential assistance and opportunities for children.

Khyaaal

Khyaaal is an awareness-oriented initiative that SHINE has continued through community events and campaigns, encouraging awareness, participation and social responsibility.

Book Bank

The Book Bank initiative was developed to make books available to students who need them. SHINE worked with Pratibha Welfare Society to help make educational resources available to students.

Blood Donation & COVID Response

During COVID-19, SHINE volunteers conducted rural awareness programmes, supported the Gorakhpur community kitchen, helped verify leads for hospitals, medicines, blood and oxygen, distributed masks and sanitised villages.

Blanket Distribution

SHINE has conducted winter blanket distribution drives for elderly people, helping provide basic winter protection to people who needed additional support.

Quiz Competition

A Samanya Gyan Pratyogita was organised at Education Hut School with Pratibha Welfare Society to encourage learning, confidence and participation among children.

Essential Support & Relief

Providing practical assistance to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances, from essential supplies to support during times when help is needed most.

Environment

Awareness beyond immediate needs

Environmental initiatives encourage community participation around natural resources, water conservation and the importance of protecting the environment.

AMRIT

AMRIT is a water-focused campaign launched around World Water Day. Its initial focus is groundwater pollution and the risks faced by communities that depend directly on groundwater.

The campaign promotes greater awareness, exploration, analysis and monitoring of groundwater and encourages practical approaches to improving access to clean water.

Plantation Drive

SHINE encourages community participation in plantation activities and awareness around the importance of trees and environmental responsibility.

The initiative encourages people from different communities and backgrounds to participate in creating a greener environment.

Humanitarian support

Being present when circumstances change

Disasters and emergencies can quickly change what communities need. SHINE's volunteer network has supported response efforts during floods and the COVID-19 crisis.

Disaster Response

Based in Gorakhpur, a flood-prone region, SHINE maintains a volunteer-oriented approach to disaster response and community support during difficult circumstances.

The organisation has documented work during the 2017 Gorakhpur floods, including evacuation support, clean water and nutritious meals, and later applied this experience during the COVID-19 crisis.

Support During Difficult Times

SHINE also works to provide support according to its capacity when individuals and communities face difficult circumstances, including humanitarian and medical needs.

The approach connects volunteers, resources and community participation with people who require practical assistance.

How we work

Ground-level work, shared responsibility.

SHINE's original approach describes the organisation as a ground-level entity: establishing Education Hut centres, organising camps and awareness programmes, teaching for free and connecting collective help with people who need it.

The work is supported by volunteers and community participation, while available resources are directed toward practical needs.

01

Understand the situation

We begin by understanding the local context and the people affected. This helps identify where support can be useful rather than simply assuming what a community needs.

02

Bring people together

SHINE's work depends on volunteers, community members, donors, educators, partners and people willing to contribute their skills or resources.

03

Turn resources into action

Contributions become practical work: teaching children, distributing educational materials, organising awareness activities, supporting health initiatives or responding during emergencies.

04

Learn and continue

Each initiative provides experience. The organisation uses that experience to refine its plans, strengthen future initiatives and continue responding to changing needs.

Support the work

Be part of what happens next.

SHINE's work grows through people who teach, volunteer, donate, partner, share resources and help connect communities with opportunities.
